It's a risk to exceed the guidance that you get from Tauck on their website and in the spiral travel booklet. The internal private charter flights are lower risk, however on the regularly scheduled Quantas flight from Sydney to Wellington you will be subject to the Quantas rules for coach class travel. We did this small group trip last year and I believe that all had one checked bag and one carryon.
I would suggest that if you cannot get everything into a single checked bag plus a single carry-on you are packing the wrong items. They are very casual (but neat) dressers down under. Tauck advice in their pre-tour information is built on experience so do be guided by that. These are tour experiences not fashion parades.
