Scandinavia Tour May 25, 2018

Together with my 19 year-old granddaughter, we are both immensely looking forward to this journey.
My question is about local currency:
do folks recommend buying some for each of the 3 countries for small purchases, or are credit cards widely used, even for small purchases?
are Euros accepted at all?
thank you.

  • Credit cards are widely accepted. Euros are not. However, it is a good ides to get a little local currency in each country. Rather than getting the currency before you go (this is always expensive), take your bank card and get currency from the ATMs in the country you're visiting. Currency exchange rates are usually the best from ATMs (although you will probably be charged a small ATM fee). Be sure to notify you credit card companies and bank before you go, so that you don't get blocked for suspected fraud.
  • Best to use the atm at the airport when you arrive, they usually have better rates

Do avoid the kiosk for foreign exchange, they will rip you off
  • If you plan well you can return home with little foreign currency. The day you leave for the next country on the tour and if you charged anything to your room (meal, mini-bar, laundry, souvenir, etc.), settle the bill during checkout with leftover currency or a mix of leftover currency and plastic. Similarly, if you have lunch or dinner on your own on the last day in a particular country, ask the waiter if you can pay with a mix of currency and plastic.
