    There are always a few that take some foreign currency but many just wait and get it from an ATM at the airport or hotel. Any fees are budget dust compared to the cost of the trip and airfare. That is what we do. We have never obtained foreign currency before leaving the US. We also use plastic whenever possible for local purchases and meals. If you get cash, don't worry about excess, you can combine it with USD for the TD tip.

    Russia may be a special case. You can probably find some threads on this topic in the SRB forum archives.
