Sainte Mere-Eglise

Hi. We are booked on the 7/25 Rendevouz on the Seine. While in Normandy, we visit some really interesdting places but I was told by a friend who visited Normandy, not to miss Sainte Mere-Eglise (very important historical site from WWII). I can't determine how far it is from where the boat is docked so Ican't tell how long it would take to go there and visit. Does anyone else have this on their "must see" list?

  • The closest the ship gets to it is Le Havre and that's over 100 miles (about a 2 hour drive on country roads). We took a different Seine cruise with Tauck last year with a similar day spent at the D-day sights and there wouldn't have been the time or opportunity to get to Sainte Mere-Eglise. Further, the ship did not meet us at the same location that we left it that morning. It picked us up further up river (and was late because they had gotten held up at a lock) then immediately continued on to the next stop. So even if you skipped the day with Tauck and hired a private driver you'd have a logistic head ache catching up with the ship.
