We will be going on the August 11 trip. As time is getting closer, I'm hoping someone can answer the following questions.
1. Is it possible to carry on your luggage if you pack light or do you have to check it?
2. Are hair dryers available at all accomodations and ,if so, does that mean we don't need plug adapters?
3. What type of gifts are appropriate for the children?
4. Are travelers checks accepted or is it better to bring cash and, if so, how much cash is recommended?
5. Have any trips been cancelled in the last year due to safety concerns?

1. Is it possible to carry on your luggage if you pack light or do you have to check it?
KLM Airlines permits two pieces of checked luggage per person, with a maximum per bag of 50 lbs, 62 inches (height+width+depth). Additional charges will likely apply for luggage weighing more than 50 lbs or with a total linear dimension of more than 62 inches per piece. While these are the limits set forth by KLM, Tauck STRONGLY urges that
checked luggage be limited to ONE piece per person, weighing not more than 50lbs. Additionally, Tauck will be supplying you with a special duffel bag for use on your safari
journey.
On safari, strict limitations on our on-tour flights require that guests take a maximum of one piece of checked luggage (weighing no more than 33 lbs.) per person. A special duffel will be mailed to your home prior to departure for use during the safari portion of your journey.

2. Are hair dryers available at all accomodations and ,if so, does that mean we don't need plug adapters?
Hair Dryers are available at almost all hotels. If you plan on charging your phone, laptop, camera, etc.. you may want to bring an adpter with you.

3. What type of gifts are appropriate for the children?
Normally just books, coloring books, crayons, school supplies are good ideas. Bringing candies or chocolates is not advised.

4. Are travelers checks accepted or is it better to bring cash and, if so, how much cash is recommended?
Best to bring cash. As for amount of cash that is up to you

5. Have any trips been cancelled in the last year due to safety concerns?
No trips were cancelled due to security issues last year.

Can the duffle bag be carried onto the KLM flight? I'm hoping to pack lightly enough that I don't have to check luggage.

Also, are all the accommodations non-smoking? Thanks.
