Proof of medical coverage - how much proof?

Per my booking summary "To enter the Czech Republic, you must also produce proof of medical insurance. A valid insurance card from your primary medical insurer...will be accepted.

We have declined Tauck Guest Protection, in favor of our HMO coverage and Amex Platinum Card medical benefits.

My Kaiser card states on the bottom: "This card does not prove membership nor guarantee coverage".

My question is how diligent are the Czechs in checking the fine print?

I won't comment on how reasonable this requirement is, aside from having visited at least a dozen other countries through Tauck, without ever running into such a technicality.

    Hello Tom and Mariula,

The U.S. State Department advises that: All foreigners seeking entry into the Czech Republic must also carry proof of a medical insurance policy contracted for payment of all costs for hospitalization and medical treatment while in the Czech Republic. According to the Czech Government, if you have health insurance card or an internationally recognized credit card with health insurance included, it will generally be accepted as proof of insurance to enter the country.

The best suggestion I can give you is to call Kaiser and Amex to see if are covered in the Czech Republic/ or traveling outside the U.S.

Here are 2 links to the U.S. State Dept, that you may find useful.

    Hope this helps,
