Beanbags for photography?

Some have said it is a good idea to bring a bag to fill with beans to help keep your your camera stable while taking pictures in the vehicle. Has anyone done this? Does Tauck provide the "beanbags?" Is it necessary?

Hi Dan! (are you Darlene's husband?) I purchased "The Red Pod" beanbag for our May 19 safari. I liked this one because it is very lightweight and attaches to the bottom of the camera where a tripod would screw on. It should hold the camera steady when shooting from the window of a vehicle or an open roof and also protect the camera if there should be a sudden bump.

    Hello Dan,

Tauck does not provide "beanbags." We are on an open safari vehicle and to keep the camera stable, any sort of small tripod can be used to fix the camera in the safari vehicle.

    Hope this helps,
    Emily

    Ilene,

    I don't think I'm Darlene's husband. I'll check with my wife . . .

The Red Pod bag looks really good, but I ordered the Kenesis Sack because it is supposed to handle long telephoto lenses.

    Thanks for the info.
