Pre trip tour in Cape Town
Hello everyone
My husband and I will be embarking on the tour that commences on June 21/2024. We will be arriving a day early and we’re interested in exploring the Cape Fusion tour with Pam. (walking, eating like locals, touring, etc.) Of course the tour cost is predicated on how many participate. The tours are private so they do not independently group “strangers.”
Also, does anyone know why the Tauck tour no longer visits Robben Island. Is it worth an independent visit. I have read mixed reviews.

We went to Robben Island when Tauck did include it on the tour year as ago. I’ve heard several reasons over the years since it is no longer included. One Tauck rep told me it was because the ferry company started wanting everyone’s passports details in advance and Tauck were concerned about privacy or security. Second, that stretch of water can be a very dangerous crossing which is partly why the prison was put there, it prevented escape. So the ferry crossing can be canceled due to weather conditions. Third, there was a ferry ‘disaster’ in Sept 2017.
We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and had a great local guide who had escorted many celebrities over the years.
We went a day early for the small group elegant adventure. Some in our group did Robben's Island and said they really enjoyed it. We chose to book a 5-6 hour wine tasting tour. It was private for the four of us traveling together, and it included a fair amount of in-vehicle time. It was wonderful!! Beautiful scenery and wonderful wine.
If Table Mtn is free of cloud cover before the Tauck tour begins, go see that. You go to the top on the Tauck tour, but you never know when it will be cloudy. It is big enough that going twice is well worth it. Our Tauck day on Table Mtn was cloudy, but we had been there two days earlier on a very clear day.
We went to Robben Island in 2012 and had a wonderful and very interesting tour. I am attaching photos and one is of Nelson Man
dela's cell.
