Starting to get Excited

Just 2.5 months until our dream vacation. The 3 River cruise from Amsterdam on August 10th. We will arrive August 9th and are looking for recommendations for things to do. Has anyone taken this cruise before? Any insights on packing will also be appreciated!

If your pre-tour stay is at the Sofitel Amsterdam, you will be very close to the old town area as well as what is known as the Nine Little Streets--a delightful maze of shops and cafes. We have eaten late lunches at both The Pantry and 'tZweeantje, the latter being my favorite. Their traditional pea soup--snert--is delicious and very hearty.

Of course, there are museums, Anne Frank house, canal cruises, but those require advance tickets.

Attire is a personal choice. If your trip includes gala/special dinners off the ship, you might wish to dress accordingly. Same holds true for the signature dinners on the ship. Having a versatile, mix and match wardrobe with the ability to layer seems to work best for many.

Have a memorable journey and please post a review afterwards.

  • We haven't done that exact tour but have done others covering most of your stops. So much to do in Amsterdam. I'd recommend Rick Steves pocket guide to Amsterdam which was just updated in April. Inexpensive, small and very useful info. As to clothing, in Aug it is likely to be hot. While they do list a sport coat in the packing list (optional tie) i'd highly recommend a lightweight one. In my experience when its hot few men wear sport coats or if they do they remove it during dinner. AC is not prolific in Europe.

  • We just got back from this cruise on May 8. I highly recommend the Anne Frank museum. You need to check online as tickets go on sale 6 weeks ahead of time and they sell out fairly quickly. It’s a short walk (8 - 10 minutes) from the Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht. Enjoy this wonderful tour!
