Re - Bellissima Northern Italy - Venice
Hi all. Thanks for any input you can provide.
At the end of this tour, in Venice, we have a “private recital at Museo Della Musica”. Is this extremely worthwhile ? Or just so-so ? There is another, private tour I’d like to do if possible. I know it’s all opinion, but I’m unsure what to expect. Some things can vary widely.
Thanks again for your input !

Hello Tillyseattle, one of the great things about Tauck is that they love to throw in music and dance "surprises". We have now done 5 of the Tauck Italy tours and my personal opinion is that the cultural performances with folk music and dance are more interesting than someone performing or singing classical music in a palace or museum setting. However, I am not familiar specifically with the Museo della musica.
BTW I was just in Venice yesterday and it is still crowded! If you are going to break away from the group, make sure you plan plenty of time to get to your next destination.
We did this tour last fall and loved it (great TD if you have Victor) The concert in mention was not on our tour. We found that we could do most things on our own without hiring a private tour. We did need a tour to view the synagogues and I think you need to do a tour if you want to see the inside of the opera house but otherwise Venice is a great city to walk on your own and the vaporettos go everywhere and are cheap and easy . Have fun (and say hello to Victor if he is your TD)
Thanks for your comments/suggestions. Very appreciated!
Tillyseattle, I just looked at your tour itinerary and I see that the recital is a featured activity? You might wish to clarify more details with Tauck before you decide against it, but I would have thought there would be an after-hours tour of St. Mark's included in this tour, and I don't see it listed. It would really be a shame to miss that, unless you've already seen it. I'm pretty sure you can book that yourself.
We just completed this tour on 5/21 (spent an additional day at the Gritti Palace before flying back to the US on 5/22. The concert at Museo Della Musica featured a 3 piece ensemble, which played selections by Vivaldi, Verdi and other classical artists. We were the only group in attendance and the musicians were quite good. If you don't like classical string music, it might not be for you. The building is a de-consecrated church an features a museum of musical instruments, particularly string instruments of historical significance. the concert is only about 45 minutes, so I can't imagine with the free time available in Venice you could do better. After the concert, there is some time to view the museum. Then it is a short walk back to the Gritti Palace for the last dinner with our fellow tour participants.
