Layover in Frankfurt
I have been reading a lot about the layovers in Johannesburg… What to do and what not to do. My layover is in Frankfurt. Any information regarding that airport would be greatly appreciated.

It's a big airport, you might have to take a shuttle bus to get from one terminal to another, Luft, has a nice lounge with decent food although they are picky about who enters certain lounges, otherwise there's decent food in the airport itself. Big duty free if that's your thing.
Very large airport which required considerable walking on a few occasions. My personal beef is lounge access is limited depending on which terminal your gate happens to be.
LindaAlbrecht - In advance of my trip, I always research the airport on the internet to familiarize myself with its layout, particularly one that I have not been to before. This is especially helpful when the layover is short. Be sure you know the arriving gate/terminal, as well as the departing gate/terminal. If not already indicated on your boarding passes, the flight attendant can advise upon landing.
Yes, Frankfurt is large but I found the signage to be helpful and written in both German and English. I hope this helps.
Linda: I have used the Frankfurt Airport several times in the past, not recently though. The airport is huge and very busy, however, I found it to be very efficient and signage is very good. I seem to recall that I usually had to take a shuttle bus to reach my boarding area. I agree with kfnknfzk in that I find it very helpful to familiarize myself with any airport that I travel to in order to get the "lay of the land", so to speak. Enjoy your trip.
Depending on the length of layover you might consider a day use room at Frankfurt.
We connected through Frankfurt a few days ago for a trip from Catania, Sicily to LAX. Our layover was 2.5 hours. From the time of exiting the plane, getting on a transport shuttle to the gate (we did not need this the previous time), bathroom break, finding and going through passport control, then finding and getting into the lounge it was 1.5 hours exactly. It was another 10-15 min walk to the gate. As stated above, everything was well-marked and there were even uniformed people in the terminal assisting with locating your departure gate.
I always stop for soft pretzels when at FRA. got snowed in there for a day last Jan. on way back from Dubai. The Rossmann drug/health food store allowed me to pick up muesli, etc., but I was on my way home of course.
Thanks everybody… I have a 13 hour layover in Frankfurt. So I definitely will be taking advantage of the. Day use in the airport.. I will also be checking out the lay out of the airport. Had not thought to do that thanks for the suggestion. And for sure soft pretzel is on my itinerary..
