Best clothing for K & T safari October 2025
First timers to Africa. Anyone with good advice on what NOT to wear? All bugs love me so am prepared with deet. Anyone with experience using mosquito repellent bracelets? I have seen posts saying do not wear black or dark blue. Also have seen posts about not wearing any bright colors. Any further details would be appreciated.

You’re doing everything correctly. Wear layers. Personally, unless it’s super hot, I like to keep my arms covered.
The dark clothing is mainly in the Serengeti where the tsetse flies are. We were there late September 2024 and didn’t get anything bug bites. Best to wear neutral colors in quick dry fabrics. No heavy jeans. Layers as others say. Depending on your cold tolerance, you may want to pack a warm hat and gloves for ballon ride. It’s such a beautiful trip you don’t want to be shivering. Opportunities to do laundry at hotels. We did ours at Amboseli. They did a great job. Very casual. No need for dress up clothes. Be sure to have hats for sun protection. It’s a wonderful trip!
You need very little for this trip. Three sets of safari clothes. One you are wearing, one is in the laundry, and the third you wear to dinner and the following day. You are in the vehicles all day, but you get very dirty from the dust. Make sure you have everything you “need” with you on the airplane .. not in checked luggage, which often goes astray on this trip. We always had Deet with us on our five trips, but we seldom used it. Make sure to check on vaccination and med requirements with your doctor. There are thousands of words on this forum about malaria meds. I will just say there are pros and cons.
One other must have, a neck gaiter, scarf or face mask when it gets dusty.
