Game drives with back issues

  • It must have been the woman from my tour. Supposedly looking out at the horizon can help with motion sickness, but how convenient that only a large picture window would work.

For the most part we have always had respectful fellow travelers, but it only takes one to ruin it for everyone else.

British -Ok, I need to find something that entitles me to sit where I like. What happens if there are a number of people who get motion sickness or have bad backs! Do the rest of us not get a look in! This is why Tauck has the policy.

People can pretend to have some disabilty, of course. You coud do so. But I'm willing to believe people who say they have a disability. Lies have a way of coming out.

  • Ride in the front seat up to Dalsnibba in Norway and that will cure anyone’s desire for a front seat view. Lol

  • This is more complicated. Tauck must have experienced issues or they would not have the rule.
So Mike, you and Judy are about to get onto a safari vehicle with two other couples. The wife of the first couple says, I get motion sickness, I’d like to sit at the front. But then the wife of the second couple says, but I have motion sickness too, but I think I will be ok to sit in the second row. So Mike, you and Judy get on those uncomfortable back seats saying nothing and maybe for the entire tour?
With apology to the person who has back issues.

If that was the situation, I'd ask to ride in a different vehicle.

You can always make up extreme scenarios.

My experience with a person with motion problems was on a bus, with a lot of comfortable seats, not on a safari vehicle.

  • So I found myself reading on the Rick Steves forum and found this from several years ago. This was on a long thread where people had had a huge problem with others hogging seats.

‘ I'm a former tour director so I'll chime in.
On a single day tour, we wouldn't ask people to change seats. On multi-day tour, I would announce on day one how we would be rotating seats on a daily basis. I rarely had any problems.
Oh, there were the occasional passengers who said their travel agent promised them that they could sit in the front seat for the entire tour. I'd politely tell them that was against company policy and that was the end of that.
If you go with a decent tour company, they will probably have a seat rotation system in place. You can always ask the tour company what their policy is on seat rotation. If there is none, or they leave it up to the tour director, you could look for a different tour.
Don't be afraid to ask the tour company questions. They are there to make you happy and hopefully get you as a return customer. The last thing they want is an unhappy passenger.
Keep in mind......a tour, like anything else, depends on price. The cheaper the tour, the less that is included and the more that is optional’

  • Anyone who has any type of back issue or even if you don't, get a pilates ball on Amazon and bring it with you. I sat on it the entire time I was on safari and it was fantastic, also you can do some pilates with it. They also sell blow up seat cushions but I am a huge fan of traveling with a pilates ball for the planes also. I did my tour with Abercrombie and Kent and the guides and drivers will help you in and out as much as you need. I had them all doing pilates and yoga at our rest stops.
