Grandparent / Grandchild Travel - Bridges Tours
Hello! New to traveling with Grandparent/Family Tours...usually just do our own thing. I am traveling with my Granddaughter on a Bridges Family Tour to the Colorado/Utah, parks and sites.
Any tips with this type of tour? I understand there are at least 12 other children going which I think will be good for my soon to be 12 year old. She is outgoing and social, but never been on a 'tour' before....Do they keep the kids engaged? Not just with the site activity but when there is down time or travel time?? Are there tour guides that caterer to the youth traveling?
Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom!

We’ve taken two Bridges tours, and one coming up next year. The nearest equivalent to yours we took was Res Rocks painted Canyons. Our tour director loved doing the tours. There were 45 people on our tour, one more than is supposed to be the max. But it was very well organized. At the welcome dinner the children were given questionnaires to go round and interview all the adults which was fun. On our tour the TD. arranged that all the children sit together at the welcome dinner. The only complaint for us was that the kids were not given the choice of the adult meal, they just got junk food which upset my daughter as her son eats adult meals as does our other grandson, and he is only 6. Our granddaughter loves stuff like macaroni cheese so it was fine for her. Later the TD said the kids could have the choice but that is not what the servers brought them all.
Otherwise, the tour was very well organized with things like quizzes and prizes on the bus. By the final days all the kids were sitting together at the back of the bus having a great time. There was one stuffy family, a father with two boys who were disruptive several times and rude to the tour director. Most of us avoided them. Of course in a big group that is easy to do. Another grandfather was complaining and swearing quite a few times in front of us all.
Obviously we enjoyed the experience because we are about to take our third Bridges tour. As we pay for everyone I’m not sure we can afford another. We would take one every year if we could. It’s a super bonding experience for everyone. I make Shutterfly memory books for everyone.
We have been on 5 Bridges tours each with a grandchild between 12 and 14 years old. These trips definitely engage the children and tour directors absolutely cater to the youth traveling. All the trips have been wonderful. Enjoy and don't worry!
