Air travel for Kenya & Tanzania??

Hello.
What have most travelers done in regards to buying airline tix? Have they found greater discounts through Tauck directly and w/that able to have decent seat assignments? OR did you buy on own? If the latter why, assuming no mileage used.

Also, how many days did you plan for travel knowing it's at least 2 days to get there?

Thanks all!

We purchased our air tickets at orbitz.com and obtained better fares than Tauck offered.

We chose to break up the long flights by spending a few days in Europe before and after the Tauck tour. This was our itinerary:

Palm Beach to Atlanta to Amsterdam - overnight on KLM
    2 nights at Amsterdam Marriott
Day flight on KLM from Amsterdam to Kilimanjaro
    Tauck tour
Overnight flight from Nairobi to Paris on Air France
    2 nights in Paris
Daytime flight from Paris to Miami on Air France

It was a good decision to break up the flying. It was less exhausting this way!

Thank you for sharing your experience. That sounds like a good way to break things up and see other sites.
Hope you were able to take in some sites on both ends of your trip.

    Thanks again!

PS No issues w/using an online travel vendor, huh? Good to know.

We bought our airline tickets through AAA .That was on a recomendation from Leo, use a travel agent, ( see his tips. on Feb 2 Forum list) . Newark to Amsterdam to Kilamenjaro. We are going 4 days early. Leaving on the 29 of Jan. arrive Kilamenjaro late on the 30th. We will spend the night in Arusha and the next morning we are going to Tarangire. We will stay at the Tarangire Safari Lodge for 2 nights and return to Arusha to meet up with the Tauck group on Feb 2.. Tarangire has large concentration of elephants. We booked this early portion of the trip with AfricanTravel Inc. they are going to pick us up at the airport, take us to Arusha for the night, then to Tarangire and return us to Arusha on the 2nd. You never know what the weather will be like in Janauray, in the Northeast. So, if the weater is a problem, we can cut the trip short in Tarangire and still be on time for the Tauck trip on the 2nd of Feb.

We bought our tickets thru AAA and it was cheaper than Tauck. No problem with seat assignments and could go on web site or call airline'
