what is going on here, TAUCK?

JUST BOOKED FOUR FOR THE CANYONLANDS AND VEGAS FOR OCTOBER 10, 20014....
ONLY HOURS AGO....
THEN I received an email...confirming the trip.....
but they changed the FOUR SEASONS HOTEL IN SCOTTSDALE....to some other hotel....
the catalog clearly indicates the Four Seasons...with in two hours of my reservations IT WAS CHANGED....
THE reservationist tells me he was sorry, forgot to tell me...
very disappointed in TAUCK...DO NOT appreciate being that kind of shady service...last time we go with tauck.

If you rejected the apology that was offered, I don't see how you can possibly accuse Tauck of "shady service". Perhaps you might feel more comfortable yelling at another group of travellers with another tour group.
  • Jan, they did this with me in Paris and although the hotel was nice I did not appreciate the fact workers on the hotel renovations could see in our bathroom. Tauck is not as good as it was in your era. No wonder everyone wonders if you are paid by Tauck. Emily and Tim the paid Tauck advisors should be answering be answering these posts. There are other companies that do as good a job or better and I also travel with them where as we used to travel only with Tauck. Of the 3 trips for the next year only 1 is Tauck.

  • It is clearly stated in the catalogue they reserve the right to change the itenery if need be. I have done many trips with Tauck and can not imagine they changed it easily. Is the new hotel not as nice and were you planning on spending lots of time at the 1st hotel. It was just a starting pont when I did the trip and was not near anything.
  • I booked my upcoming holiday in August around 16 months ago and in that time frame Tauck changed the hotel in Paris three times and on each occasion they notified me and on each occasion the hotel was still a very good 5 star establishment. As I'm going on a holiday and staying in Hotels that I could never afford under normal circumstances I was not concerned that for what ever reason the Hotel was changed. I note in the OP's post that the name of the "new" hotel is not mentioned. I'm only guessing that is of similar quality to the Four Seasons. If your reason for choosing this Tauck trip was based solely on your staying at the Four Seasons then perhaps you have a reason for being annoyed although it is not something I would get my knickers in a knot over but if your disappointment stems from a Tauck employee not informing you of the change at the time of booking then in my humble opinion I think you are over-reacting.
  • Although the Four Seasons in Scottsdale is a lovely hotel ( I have been on this trip) there are other 5 star hotels in phoenix. Was the new hotel a 5 star hotel ? What is the name ?

Remember, you are booking a trip, not specific hotels. Tauck, like any tour company reserves the right to make changes when necessary and obviously they thought it was necessary. They do that not to disappoint, not make more money, not to go on the cheap, but, instead to maintain or improve on the traveler's experience.

This is an extreme example, but would you still want to stay at the 4 Seasons if they had an outbreak of some communicable disease or if the hotel staff went on strike? I suspect the "Complimentary" stay at the 4 Seasons was changed very recently since it is still listed on the Tauck website and that it was just an oversight that the agent failed to mention it. The change may have been caused by the 4 Seasons withdrawing the offer and was beyond Tauck's control. It was obviously disclosed in your documents.

Disappointment that they changed a "complimentary" offer might be in order, but your claim of shady service is unwarranted and without merit! Have you asked Tauck if they will cancel your reservation and refund your money due to this change?

I wasn't going to say this, but it is probably what many others were thinking, so what the hey. With an attitude like that, I wouldn't want you on my tour.

Now you are just being offensive, Gary. How dare you say …"as it was in your era". And your suggestion that I am a paid Tauck stooge is almost as insulting. To all the Tauck staff who are paid to deal with difficult people and their complaints about the weather intruding on the view from the deck of a ship.

    Can we move on?
  • Get over the hotel change. It is usually for the better. When I went on Canyuonlands a few years ago we didn't stay at the Four Seasons. Just finished the Hawaii tour and last spring they switched the hotel in Maui to a far better one than the previous one due to poor service. Tauck doesn't mess around with hotels that aren't up to their standards. That is one reason they have such a good travel reputation.
