A Week In...Spain April 5 2015

Hi Folks,
I'm booked on the April 5 2015 trip. After I booked, I realized that Day 1 is Easter Sunday, and the tour of Barcelona on Day 2 takes place on Easter Monday. Will this affect the itinerary? Are sites and attractions in Barcelona generally open or closed on Easter weekend? Where can I get information on Easter processions and other special events?

I'm actually arriving 2 days earlier, on the morning of Good Friday, and hope to go to the Picasso and Miro museums and Parc Guell on Friday, Saturday and Sunday before meeting the Tauck group for dinner. I'm trying to plan my itinerary for those days around times when the museums are open, and would also like to see some of the Gaudi/Moderniste buildings. Any suggestions for walking tours or guides?

I traveled with Tauck for the first time this year on the World Cities: Florence tour in May. I had a fabulous time and was very impressed with the quality of the service, the exclusive experiences, and the wonderful people that I met. Some of them were repeat clients, and now I'm becoming one too!

  • Spain does take religion seriously. The quickest way to find out about festivals and closures is to search the web. About 35 years ago I was at an Easter festival in Sitges, which I think is near there.
  • Hi Jenniferro,

My mother and I will be on this trip as well. We are arriving Sat evening around 7:30pm. We are looking into some different day tours for Sunday pre trip.. Even though it is Easter it looks like there will be some places open. We are trying to figure out what to do that will not be a duplicate of what the tour will offer... We are also staying a few extra days in Madrid after the tour..

We have been looking at the following groups:
    Walking tours: www.barcelonaturisme.com
    Private / group tours: http://www.spaindaytours.com/barcelona-tours.html
Hop on hop off bus: http://www.hop-on-hop-off-bus.com/barcelona-bus-tours

  • Hi Terry,
Sorry it took me so long to see your post. I look forward to meeting you and your mother. Have you booked anything yet for Sunday April 5? I've been looking at a private tour with Forever Barcelona. They are highly rated on tripadvisor.com.

I've asked them if I can add an hour to tour the interior of Casa Battlo, and substitute Hospital de Sant Pau for Sagrada Familia, since we'll see that with Tauck. They said they can do that, and the cost is 358 euros, by walking/subway/taxi.
Would you be interested in joining me and splitting the cost?

Since we'll have free time on Monday afternoon, I'm considering a tour of the Chocolate Museum with Context Travel. I've been on small group walking tours with them in Rome and New York City, and enjoyed them greatly.

I'm staying over for 2 days in Madrid at the end of the trip too. I am looking into Context Travel's tours there, and possibly a day trip to Toledo, such as this one available on April 13.

My aim when traveling is always to learn, mostly about art, architecture, history and culture. I also enjoy meeting like-minded people, and really enjoyed that aspect of my first Tauck trip last year.
