Tipping

We have been on two Tauck European River Cruises before where tipping was not necessary. Our Grand New England tour this Oct. (2016) will be our first Tauck tour where tipping is appropriate. Can anyone give us a hint as to who and how much would be appropriate? Thanks.

  • Hello, if you go to the Tauck page for your tour, open the Before You Go tab, open the tab Gratuaties included and also Director Gratuaties. The 'Rules' are not always the same for all tours, so it is worth checking for each tour you take. I notice that sometimes the bus driver has his tip included and sometimes not, usually when there is more than one driver on the tour, the tips are included. Amounts, $8 per person per day for Tour director, $4 or $5 a day for driver. These amounts have not changed for years and some people are far more generous and others, not sure they give anything. We take envelopes with us, write personal notes and hand the bus driver his tip when we know it's the last time we will see him. We hand the Tour director the envelope at the Farewell dinner.
  • Spmass, In the spiral notebook that Tauck provides to travelers a few weeks prior to your trip, they outline suggested tipping amounts. On the trips I have taken, they generally recommend $8 per day for the tour director and $4 for the bus driver.
These are subject to the type of tour, for instance, I just returned from the Essence of Japan tour and a tip for the bus driver was not mentioned.
