Reyjavik Hotel Suggestions/Airport Transportation
We will be taking a tour of Iceland, with a few days prior to the tour, on own. Can someone please suggest a good, centrally located hotel in Reyjavik, as well as ground transport from the airport to city center? Thank you.

Last summer we stayed in the Parliament Hotel in Reykjavik. It was beautiful and very centrally located. It is part of the Hilton Curio Collection. When we did the Iceland cruise with Tauck a few years ago, the hotel for the tour was nice, but was over $20 for a cab to the city.
We stayed at the Skuggi Hotel - https://www.keahotels.is/skuggi-hotel - reasonably priced and centrally located. Easy walking to most things in the city.
This was our first Tauck tour so no GOT. We went early and chose the hotel. When we went to the Tauck hotel on the first day, it was somewhat out of the main town area. The Skuggi was a much better location for walking the city.
The international airport (Keflavik) is 50km from Reykjavik but I'm sure you can find transport. I had arranged a limo but that was a long time ago and I don't remember the company. It was just a regular car, not some real limo.
Keflavik used to be a US military airport - the military left in 2006.
[Oh, here's a link to our blog of the trip - https://www.mikeandjudytravel.com/2016Iceland-01.htm]
We stayed three nights at Hotel Borg before our tour and it was really nice. There is a beautiful park across the street where families just sit and enjoy their picnic. Also, we would recommend eating at the Fish Company where the food was delicious and the fish would melt in your mouth.
I don't know what hotels Tauck has listed, but think I can give some helpful input. We have not done Iceland via Tauck, but have been to Iceland twice, including a stopover 2 weeks ago upon return from the Tauck Venice & Dalmatian Coast trip. Our first time to Iceland was on the way out to the Tauck Baltic cruise. With that first stay in Iceland, our hotel was the Hilton Nordica, which as it turns out was the hotel used by Tauck for a small ship trip. The hotel was nice, but not well located, and a distance from the city center. There was little food wise nearby, and a not too exciting walk to get to the much of town. It is not a great option if you want to explore the city for a few days. This time we stayed at the Canopy by Hilton (https://www.hilton.com/en/hotels/rekcapy-canopy-reykjavik-city-centre/). It seemed pretty new, and was nice and modern. Most important, the location was great. Right off of Laugavegur, and a few blocks down from the cathedral, which is a central location point. Plenty of dining nearby, and walkable to most of what you want to do (included for us the Lava Show, and FlyOver Iceland). Plus if you book any day tours that don't pick up at the hotel, it was walkable to the bus terminal where many Reykjavik Expeditions tours leave from. The breakfast spread included with our room was quite nice.
The Tauck website lists Grand Hotel Reykjavik or Hilton Reykjavik Nordica as the pre-stay and post-stay hotels for 2024 and 2025. Both are east of the city center and appear quite a distance, 30 min. walk, from the city center.
Anyone notice the strange museum near downtown where rte 41 hangs a right as you are headed west?
We walked past the museum and my son went in and got a good laugh.
Is that the Saga Museum?
No, this one starts with Phal . . . .
