Cruise to Japan

I have read many of the comments about a trip to Japan. Although many suggest the land tour, I've decided on the cruise...April 2025. The older I get the more I appreciate the cruise convenience and have traveled to many places in Asia. I have been traveling with Tauck since 2007 and have never been disappointed. Also cruised on a number of LePonant ships...always enjoyable. All that being said, I would appreciate any comments about the trip from travelers...clothes I should pack, electronic problems, activity levels...anything you think may be helpful. I am almost 80 and traveling solo...Thanks...

  • It’s a fabulous trip. We did the same in 2017.

  • We are looking into a trip to Japan in 2026, land or cruise and land to be determined.
For those who have done the Essence of Japan trip, what was the age of the group?
    Thanks

  • There is no definite age of a group on tours.

  • While British is correct that there is no definite age of a group, Tauck tours tend to skew towards seniors, which I'd define as 60+. I suppose the reason is that people who are retired have the time and money to travel.

  • I leave for the Japan cruise in a month and have few last minute questions. Do the cabins have 110 electric plugs? Does the ship run tenders or zodiacs to the ports? Excited about this upcoming trip. Have traveled everywhere, but this is my first to Jaoan. Any other suggestions would be appreciated...Thanks...

I haven't taken that particular cruise but I'm failry sure that the ship will dock at each port. Most ships have 120 volt US type outlets, along with European two prong 230 volt outlets.

Just FYI, the standard voltage in the US is 120 volts and 240 volts, 60 Hz (since 1954 - grid wide it took until the '60's to implement). In Europe, the standard voltage is 230 volts, 50 Hz (since January 2003). They can provide a "high voltage" to the home of about 400 volts. In the US, the voltage can vary plus or minus 5%. In Europe, the voltage can vary plus or minus 10%.

Japan is 100 volts and has both 50 Hz and 60 Hz.

Is this a Ponant cruise ship?
I’m watching the Amazing Race now and it’s in Japan, fond memories of all we saw. Favorite country

  • I love the Amazing Race. I could never participate in some of the tasks but I love to see where I’ve been.
