Canadian Capitals and Niagara Falls 2025

I am going on this trip in May 2025. Anyone else? I'm a solo traveler and would love to hear from other people going at the same time.

  • This is a great trip and one of our favorites. You will surely befriend other travelers. Enjoy and please consider posting a review afterwards. Hope you have the pleasure of having Felix A. as your tour director.

  • Quick question: How much Canadian cash would you recommend bringing on this trip?
    Thanks!

  • You could be ok with none.

  • Credit cards are very widely accepted in Canada. I would get $50 to 100 for incidentals at an atm at the airport when you arrive. While US$ bills are accepted in most places in Canada, if you go to a local merchant with US$ you will likely get a poor conversion to C$ and get change in C$

  • Thank you!

  • I wouldn't bring any. We took this trip in September. Tauck gave us cash for lunch on one of the first few days of the trip. We used a credit card for lunch so we would have some cash available. We used it for some incidentals but there was never a time we HAD TO use cash.

  • It is our preference to always have some local currency for incidentals, refreshments, et al. As mentioned, credit cards are accepted virtually everywhere. Have a wonderful time!

  • Looking forward to the May 25 cruise. We’ve cruised in Europe and Asia, but never Canada. So, a new and too long deferred pleasure.

  • Enjoy!

  • Tipping question: Do you tip the bus driver and tour guide in U.S. dollars or Canadian currency? And about how much do you tip each for the 10 day trip? Thanks!

  • I tip in U.S. currency and will sometimes supplement with local currency at my discretion. Your final documents will suggest a daily amount for the driver and tour director. I have usually exceeded that amount but that has always been my choice for the exceptional service received.

  • Our Canadian TD gave us a briefing on Canadian money that was funny and interesting. He pointed out the security features, what were the designs on the money, etc. I kept some of the coins because they were unique. Their bills were beautiful. Our money looks boring in comparison.

  • Capstar, my travel documents for an upcoming tour suggest tipping the Tour Director $15 a day and the bus driver $10 a day (per person), or the equivalent amount in local currency. I usually tip the TD in USD and the driver in local currency. You should have received your travel documents by now, since you will travel next month. If you haven't received them, call Tauck or your travel agent, if you are using a travel agent.

  • Thank you!

  • When taking a connecting flight from Quebec City to Montreal: I know we go thru customs in Montreal and then on to the U.S.
Do the airlines transfer your luggage on to your connecting flight or do you need to grab your bag and recheck it?

  • We were on the same airline for both flights and ours was transferred. We did not need to recheck it.

  • Thanks!

  • Same experience as cvc. For future reference, at your first departure airport (Quebec City for example), the ticket agent should advise if your luggage is checked all the way through to your destination. If not, ask them.

  • Thanks!

  • Looking forward to meeting everyone on the May 20th tour!

  • Have a great time. It is one of our favorite tours. The Fairmont properties are destinations themselves. Please consider posting a critique afterwards.
