Amsterdam restaurants
We will be on the Rhine/Moselle River Cruise, Southbound in October. We end in Amsterdam. Can anyone suggest a restaurant for one of the nights we will be there. We will be on the ship which complicates this because I have no idea where we will be moored. We are planning to go to the Van Gogh Museum one afternoon so perhaps we could add dinner onto that day.

If you want to figure out where the ship will be docked you can use this website for the River Cruise Port Amsterdam. It lists both river cruise and ocean going vessels. You need the name of the ship and the date the ship either arrives or departs Amsterdam. If you are starting the cruise in Amsterdam, the Arrival date may be a day or 2 earlier than when you board. If ending there, it might be the night before you actually have sightseeing in Amsterdam. Dates are in day/month/year order.

Be sure to book Van G tickets early
Within a short walk from the Van Gogh museum is the ‘t Zwaantje Restaurant specializing in traditional Dutch food. It is unpretentious with excellent food at reasonable prices.
Time permitting, there is a delightful area for strolling called The Nine Little Streets. You will find many eateries there.
You will love this tour. The Moselle River Valley is narrow and steep with little industrial shipping. As Claudia mentioned the exact location of the ship can be found on the website she mentioned. You will be docked adjacent to the Centraal Station either on the east or the west. On the west you will be very close to the western canal belt. Several higher end places to eat that have been recommend to me that are close by are: De Belhamel, Van Speyk and de Silveren Spiegel. A little further down the canal belt are the two restaurants in the hotel Dylan-Vinkeles or OCCO, Further away is the Pantry located more towards the museum area. In front of the Cetraal station is Loathe which is less upscale. The Kroller Muller museum which is an excursion choice in Nijmegen has an excellent Van Gogh collection without the crowds of Amsterdam. In 2017 when we did the tour, it was a private tour of the museum. Stop by Winkel 33 for some apple pie.
Our favorite Amsterdam restaurant is Toscanini in the Jordan District. It is very popular, but you can book a month in advance.
As referenced, the Pantry is another spot for traditional Dutch food, but I prefer the ‘t Zwaantje since it appears to be a favorite with the locals.
It is very easy to secure a cab from the port area, so don’t concern yourself with precisely where you dock. It could change anyway. I have read that Amsterdam is going to start restricting the number of large cruise ships, similar to what Venice and Barcelona have done.
Have a great trip and please consider posting a review afterwards.
