worried about protestors

hi,
We are on the October 19, 2025 tour of Morocco and are concerned about the news of violent protestors all over the country.
Has the parliament met? Have things calmed down?

  • Tauck has a Global Response Team that monitors world events 24/7. They will not knowingly allow tours to travel in harm’s way.

  • Have you signed up for. STEP on the US.gov website…….Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive messages and Alerts from the U.S. Embassy and make it easier to locate you in an emergency.

We do this for most of our tours. If you look at the website right now, it’s at a level 2 for Morocco which is pretty normal for most countries.

We have just cancelled a tour of Madagascar because we received a STEP notification about serious demonstrations about two weeks ago, they got worse and we were getting notifications several times a day. It then went up to a level 3….reconsider travel unless essential. I followed the news for several days, there were protests, looting, fires being set, road. Locks, rubber bullets and tear gas use. Some deaths. The protests are now in at least 8 other cities there plus curfews, The travel company was going to hold out a little longer incase things improved as these things often do. This time, I felt that riots would continue because it’s about basic needs in the country, so we cancelled.

We were in Morocco earlier this year. In your case, if it was me, I would still go.

We were caught up the day before a Tauck tour began in Santiago in I think it was 2018, there were fires outside our hotel and tear gas was used, it came into the hotel when we were eating dinner and affected all of us pretty much immediately. The hotel management quickly took us all into an inner courtyard and handed out wedges of lime to suck on which apparently helps the urning in your throat. Then we were all given a glass of champagne.
When all was calmed down, we all started dinner all over again.
When we were in Hong Kong with Tauck there were riots going on but we never saw any.

  • Sorry about your cancellation, British.

  • Thank you for sharing your information. Yes, I am in the STEP program and did sign up for alerts from the State Dept.
We are all packed and planning to go, unless things get worse or Tauck cancels.

Similar things going on in France....as I head to Paris next week.

  • It seems that Paris is frequently experiencing protests. In April 2019, Tauck advised us that we would not be having dinner at Fouquet’s because the restaurant had been severely damaged by the Yellow Vests who were protesting austerity measures.

Once on tour, Tauck surprised us by saying the restaurant agreed to open for us. This was a riverboat cruise so there were quite a few of us. We were shocked as the coaches approached the restaurant and saw that all the first floor windows were boarded up. We were told that we would enter the restaurant from the back and we should move quickly and follow the escorts.

When we entered, we noticed debris everywhere. The first floor suffered quite a bit of damage. We were led upstairs into several smaller rooms beautifully decorated—flowers, white linens, fine china. It was just beautiful. We were also serenaded throughout the evening by violinists as the wine flowed.

And to think this was all for us. The restaurant had discretely opened just for our group. I’m sure they were monetarily taken care of by Tauck. There truly are not enough superlatives to describe Tauck. I love them.
