Arriving a day early - recommendations of things to do in Rabat?

Hi there, we are on the December 18 (2025) Magic of Morocco trip and are arriving a day early. Does any one have recommendations of what to do that day (that doesn't overlap with the actual tour activities) and/or the names of any private guides? Many thanks!

  • We had some extra time in Rabat before the tour and just walked around the city. We wound up in the medina. No security problems.

If you want to go a bit further afield, you can take the high speed train to Tangier. The town of Chefchaouen is very close to Tangier and people say it's very interesting to visit.

If you want a guide, I've used Tours by Locals in the past.

You can see what we did at https://www.mikeandjudytravel.com/2022-1Morocco-01.htm I have some history of Morocco in the blog which you might find interesting.

  • We are currently on Tauck's Magic of Morocco Tour and arrived a day early. We independently booked a half-day tour of Rabat on Trip Advisor's website leaving at 9am, it was excellent; private car, driver, and a guide. They took us to a few places that Tauck did not. For dinner we walked around the corner from the hotel to a lovely restaurant called Sufra; excellent Moroccan food and they make you feel right at home. You will fall in love with Morocco and it's people....we have!

  • Thanks so much to both of you. Mary - do you recall which tour you took on Trip Advisor?

  • Rabat Half Day City Tour: They will pick you up at 9:00 am, at the hotel, for a 3.5 hour city tour with a private driver and tour guide. It's an excellent way of getting to know the city and its history without repeating Tauck's first day. Hope this helps, have fun!

  • thanks so much!

  • Daniel, be sure and have dinner at Sufra right around the corner from the hotel for your first night. Excellent food with a warm welcome by the owner, inside or outside seating. It was a fabulous trip!

  • Here are a few photos of Rabat to whet your appetite. I do have a thing for photographing doors!

  • Such terrific photos and memories, British! Beautiful architecture and LOTS of kitties in Rabat!

  • Plenty to do, get yourself a private guide try:
Tour by locals, Getyourguide or, Viator etc. - do your homework and book before you get there, it will save you time, money and you will see a lot.
