tipping in Chile and Argentina on Tauck Patagonia tour

Is it possible to use USD for tips when not paying with credit card?

  • Yes, do not get local currency

  • We did bring some local currency for Chile, but not Argentina.

  • Thanks so much for your help.

  • We were there in November. I brought small US bills, but never used them. We never exchanged money for local currency. We charged anything we purchased. The local guides bought us hot drinks and snacks at the rest stops and I'm sure Tauck reimbursed them. Gratuity to our TD was in US dollars; there was no bus driver tip because we had many drivers and it was covered by Tauck.

  • We ate at a few restaurants on our own either before or after the tour and one night when we were all on our own. In Chile you could add your trip to the credit card. In Argentina we were told you could not - and the little machine didn't give me the option - they had to be in cash. We used US cash as their currency is a disaster and everyone was happy to take it.
