Belle Vie in October - Geneva or stay in Lyon?
hello - I originally booked this trip in late 2024 and had to postpone. Really looking forward to finally making it! (October 13 trip in 2026). But the final spot is now in central Geneva, while originally it was a wonderful resort (which still sounded less than ideal). We have a brief time in Lyon - though I’ve traveled widely and often to France over the years by car or bicycle, I’ve not been there! I’m thinking about literally “jumping ship” in Lyon and spending a few days on my own, but only because an “afternoon on my own” in Geneva seems a waste (I was there in the late 80s so I’ve wandered it). Am I wrong??? Help convince me that being on the bus to Annecy and then to Geneva and making the final dinner with my riverboat-mates will be terrific! Thanks, all!

I used to go to Geneva on business. It's a buttoned down town, except for Rue de Berne.
I've only been to Lyon a couple of times but it has to be more exciting than Geneva.
JASS, Are oysters talking about leaving the trip for a few days? If so, check if you are taking out Tauck insurance as it may not cover you.
Just for the cuisine alone, I would choose Lyon. If feasible, add post-tour days to return there after the farewell gathering in Geneva. I realize coordinating and executing those changes could be difficult. Enjoy, no matter what you choose.
I give a big vote for staying in Lyon. It's more charming, more things to do. But, as British writes, I would double check with Tauck. They really don't like deviations but we do them anyway. In a recent conversation with them I was told that while the insurance wouldn't cover hotels, we would be covered for accidents/illness for 14 days, either side of the Tauck tour.
Wow, that is interesting, discussion here in the past has been that the Tauck insurance covers no more than three days either side of the tour.
Well, I never knew it covered anything extra - and this is a great point I’d not thought of. The idea of adding extra days is probably the best one, it seems - but I have a need to make it home I think roughly on time….I will definitely explore that, though! My recollection of Geneva was indeed that it was pretty straightforward (on a previous trip, I covered the highlights) - I love Tauck but the idea of getting to Geneva, having a morning drive around and then on our own til the dinner - not the greatest ending to this lovely trip! Okay - I’ll think on this - I’ll report back just to thank everyone!
