Matera

Hi everyone😄. Another question about the Puglia trip. While in Matera did Tauck provide a tuk-tuk tour? Are there things you wish Tauck had included in Matera? We have an extra day there and I don’t want to replicate what Tauck does. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!😄

We went 4 years ago and they did. However, what you see by tuk-tuk is limited. If you can manage the slippery steps and hilly inclines, I would hire a guide for at least a few hours then try to explore on foot. It is so beautiful and the history is incredible, in both good ways and bad. There are also very good restaurants there and excellent gelato. A great place for photographers, including at night.

I took this tour 2 years ago. Tauck did offer a Tuk Tuk ride back up from a lovely cave restaurant at which we enjoyed lunch. (Some people chose to walk; I did not. It was really hot!)

We were also there last year and yes a Tuk tuk tour was provided. However, it was more or less a scenic tour and not an in depth tour about the importance what occurred in the 60’s in Matera. Hiring a private guide is a wonderful suggestion. It can get really hot to walk the distance back to the hotel and those steps are really challenging; some with out handrails.
