Wildfires in Greece/Athens August 2026
My husband and I are booked on treasures of the Aegean August 20 through the 29th and we have been monitoring new stories about wildfires in Greece and specifically Athens! There was one that was 12 miles outside of Athens and the report said they had to close the acropolis museum😬 I actually contacted Tauck just to make sure our tour was still happening and They said they had global monitors and that we would be notified five days out if anything changes. Just wondering if anyone is on this tour or has recently returned? Prayers for safety for all effected by the wildfires and hopefully they can contain them soon! Would appreciate any and all tips concerning this tour, especially recommendations for solo time in Athens. 😃🇬🇷

My tip would be don’t go to Greece in August, it’s very very hot and dry, partly why there are often fires.
Well too late for that! It is our 44th wedding anniversary while on the tour - that is why we chose August. I realize the heat factor is a real issue but still wanted to be there on the date. Hopefully the fires will get under control 🙏🏻
I hope your anniversary gets acknowledged, ours was not on our last Tauck tour. We have always gotten at least a card from the TD, sometimes a cake, sometimes a gift, this time zilch.
We received a bottle of champagne and a card last August while on the classic KT Safari🥰
Being acknowledged on any of our significant days whether it’s a birthday or an anniversary are really not important to me on a trip. I like to keep that specialness just for my family and close friends.
I agree with you, OurTravels34. Although we have always appreciated Tauck’s generosity of giving gifts, all of which have been unsolicited, we prefer to celebrate special events privately during pre/post tour days.
I don’t know how many luggage tags I have given away. We do use the lovely passport holders and other items, however.
