Geneva to Annecy independent visit question
Hello,
Just signed up for the "La Belle Vie" river cruise for 2028 on the MS Harmonie, and was thinking of visiting Annecy after arriving in Geneva, just prior to the start of the tour - assuming Annecy doesn't re-appear for 2028.
Looking for recommendations re: getting to Annecy and back. We know that Viator might be an option, and have friends who recommend them. Just looking for 2 or 3 other recommendations. For example, other companies like Viator, or perhaps Tauck's hotel of choice might be able to book something, etc...

I've booked many, many tours on Viator (Trip Advisor owns Viator or vice versa) and a few on Get Your Guide. I've never had a problem. The hotel concierge is always a good bet. I sometimes use that option. The hotel concierge is also a good way to book car service, if you need one that Tauck doesn't provide. It might be more expensive than doing it on your own, but I like the added security of having that kind of recommendation.
You could take the train. If you rent a car you should rent it from the French side of the car rental at the airport otherwise there is a toll with a Swiss car going into France. You could possibly combine the trip with a stop at Mont Blanc if you want to stay in Anncey and are flying in to Geneva there are transfer directly from the airport

Another option is to visit Chamonix where you can take the cable car up Mont Blanc and/or a cogwheel train to a glacier. It’s been quite some time, so I don’t know how much the glacier has receded.
I always use hotel concierge to arrange tours or transfers when we travel. From a 5-star property, I expect a reliable middleman — and this one delivered. In summer 2022, we had our Geneva hotel — Hotel d'Angleterre — arrange a private transfer for our family to Annecy. We stayed a few days before continuing on to Chamonix. Annecy was already a popular day-trip destination back then, so having a private car made the transfer easier than a crowded train.
I agree, ginger_201. I refuse to pay a middleman—I understand many here have been pleased—and much prefer to pay a local student to serve as my personal docent when visiting several museums in one day…just one example of how a concierge can help with logistics. The older I get, the more I rely on their expertise and services.

I like the idea of visiting other options. Not sure how much we'll have time for, as this visit will be on the day of the Welcome Dinner, but always good to know options!
A couple of years ago we hired a car and driver via our Tauck hotel in Krakow, Poland to take us to the Wieliczka Salt Mine, which was fairly close. Good to know a concierge should be able to arrange more ambitious outings.
