several points here. Tauck has had issues with low rivers and cancellations in the past. O don’t know how they handled it then became o have only take one river cruise with them back in 2019, because we much prefer land tours.
I do think the communication has been very poor, even if there was a banner on the website explaining general timelines etc. that would be more reassuring. Even though I know they can’t make a final decision until just before the tour. Regular customers are angry/stressed. Not good.
if you have a voucher, I advise you book something as soon as possible or you may find many tours will be sold out.
Just before the pandemic, Tauck canceled our Singapore Bali tour offering us another date. We had booked our own flights. They gave us the difference it cost to rebook flights on the alternative tour date they gave us. It was around $1000. That tour never went either because it was scheduling to be what turned out to be during the Pandemic. So they lost another $1000.
We also got the call. I was surprised they are not offering a discount of any kind on other trips. In fact would have to pay up if there is any difference. My TA says this is not how other lines are doing things. Anyway, we will be going for the refund.
Somehow my last post went thru now - I must not have hit the post comment tab- I agree, it would have been nice to have a discount off a future trip and it is silly to be relieved that we got the notice before any of us boarded a plane since it was such last minute notice.
I would hope that this is a good learning experience for Tauck (and other lines) in terms of transparency, communication and general public relations. The sleep I have lost and the daily stress monitoring the water levels etc while waiting for news is not something I can put a price tag on but it would have been to have that acknowledged in some way by Tauck! Perhaps after the dust settles they will come to realize the good will that has been lost for future clients and trips!

Our TA got the call for both of us - we have already moved everything to a Swiss River cruise in 2027.
