JDL - thanks for this update. We are scheduled on the 10/4 Budapest to Passau westbound trip and would be very appreciative of more updates after you depart the ship. Did many people cancel?
apparently we only had 20 people cancel from our current tour and so far we have done everything according to plan and even added in a couple of extra visits. In the letter that Tauck sent prior to the trip allowing us to cancel, they told us about the possibility of staying in a Budapest hotel, which we will be doing at the end of the trip. There are a lot of riverboats tied up in Vienna and it doesn’t look like any are leaving to head east to Bratislava or Prague. Tauck has slightly modified our schedule for the next few days so we don’t miss out on anything - for example, the Chef’s special signature dinner on the boat has been moved forward a day so that we don’t miss it. Like us, most other guests seem to be satisfied with the revised plan - obviously we don’t really want to pack an extra time and to spend several hours on the bus, but these are unusual times and we don’t regret coming.
JDL. We will be on the MS Joy for the 9/26 westbound version of the same cruise. Your experiences pretty much reflect what we’ve been advised to expect. We’ve not yet been advised which Budapest hotel will substituted for being aboard the riverboat. Perhaps, as you noted, it will be the Al Habtoor. Which, for us, will mean moving out of the Kempinski where we’ll be for our early arrival. The modifications and inconveniences keep mounting. We gave a lot of thought to cancelling, but, this being our fourth attempt in 10 years to take this cruise, we’re getting too old to miss this opportunity to finally see Budapest, Vienna and Prague.
