Is it necessary to pack coat and tie for Scandinavia tour?

My preference would be for a nice sweater and shirt with appropriate slacks.

    I assume you took this trip and were comfortable without jacket and tie at dinner?

    I am basing this question on recommendations from Tauk tour people.

    Do you mean Tauck tour people the company or Tauck tour people who go on the tours?
    Tauck make a lot of suggestions about jackets and ties on many of the tours, but in reality from experience on lots tours with them, most men do not wear them. More may wear a jacket at the welcome meeting, but then they never wear them until maybe the last dinner, but even then, I have never seen a majority of men wearing jackets.
