travel from Rome to Naples/Sorrento

We are booked on the Aug 13 small group of Classic Italy. This is our 3rd Tauck trip. Our problem is getting to Naples to begin! There are no flights available that don't have lengthy stop overs, something we don't feel like doing. We can book a flight directly to Rome, but there are only 3 flights to Naples a day, so we are hesitating. We will have too much luggage to go to the train station, so we were thinking about doing a private driver right to Sorrento. Any ideas who could get us there in a dignifified and timely manner?

Where are you flying from and are you restricting yourself to a particular airline (miles/points)? If not, there are carriers (Air France, Al Italia, etc.) that fly into Naples from other feeders than Rome and that do not have big layovers.

We did this tour last summer and flew on Delta/Air France from Raleigh to Charles DeGaule then Naples. The layover in CDG was just 1 hour and 30 min. The return was Venice-JFK-RDU.

If you are committed to flying into Rome, you can take the train to Naples (I believe Tauck will pick you up at the station) or you can hire a car and driver but you'll need to wrestle your bags. A number of people here (including me) have used Driver in Italy for local tours, etc. in Italy They can also provide transportation from Rome to Sorrento.

If you are one of the lucky ones who is not affected by jet lag, you could plan touring (Herculaneum, National Archeological Museum, etc. ) in the Naples area on the way to Sorrento. We are not so lucky, but arrived two days early and used drivers/guides for the next two days. See other threads in the Classic Italy/Classic Italy, Small Groups forums.
