Amsterdam

Looking for a centrally located hotel in Amsterdam so we can arrive a day early. The hotel Tauck uses is $600 so need something less expensive. Thanks

We're staying at the Kimpton De Witt in June at the end of the Budapest/Amsterdam cruise. It's very close to Central Train station and the river cruise ship docks. It will be our first stay there so I can't offer a review. We're staying 3 nights - Thur-Sat and the rate ranges from $265-351. Central Amsterdam is very expensive and fills up quickly in the summer. If you can get into the Hilton Double Tree next to central station you're lucky.

Also, be warned, you have to get yourself and your luggage to the ship on your own. Not as easy as it sounds. Tauck will generally arrange a driver to pick you up at the airport and take you to your hotel, but be sure to talk to them about this once you know what hotel.

Staying at the Tauck hotel is more expensive but includes breakfast and a much easier transfer to the ship. You just leave you packed suitcases in the room and the next time you see them, they're in your ship stateroom ready to unpack. The Tauck tour directors will be at the hotel to answer questions and tell you when to be back there in time to catch the bus to the ship.
