Take new notes in small denominations for trinkets from locals. Old, or torn notes may not be accepted.Credit cards for hotels. Hard to know how to advise you about how much to take unless I know your spending habits. I like to buy the Masai collars from the locals, so cash is required for that and they can be fairly expensive, or rather, if you buy about 5 like me, that adds up.
Thank you for the advice! Wondering if we also need Tanzania schilling, which if needed, can get at ATM at airport or hotel? I can't really tell if we need the schilling and can't get them ahead here in US!

We used all American Dollars on our trip - $5's, 10's and 20's worked well and of course credit cards were fine most places!
