Beer for teens?

We will be traveling on a Bridges tour to Europe this summer. Two boys in our travel party will be over 16 and are looking forward to having a beer while in Europe, as they will be of legal drinking age in the countries we are visiting. Does anyone know of Tauck's policy regarding giving alcohol to teens?

Our Tauck booklet for a river cruise says "Although the legal drinking age varies by country throughout the world (particularly in Europe), Tauck requests that all guests under the age of 21 follow U.S. law and not consume alcoholic beverages. Ensuring compliance...is the responsibility of the adult guests...traveling with minors under the age of 21 in their care."
  • Are you taking a land tour or river cruise? On board the ship Tauck has some say in this, off the ship then it's up to the country you are in. One website - allthingscruise.com says minimum drinking age is 21 on Tauck, Viking, Uniword but doesn't say for some others like AMA. You may need to call Tauck on this one as very few Bridges travelers tend to frequent the forum (too busy with kids I suspect).

Off the ship you need to look up the law for which country. They differ depending on where it's being consumed (home or public), whether a parent/custodian is with them, are they purchasing, etc. Most places they will likely be able to drink beer if you are with them but not purchase.

If you find out from Tauck, please post an answer here. This is one of the more interesting questions lately.
  • Not a Tauck trip, but about 10 years ago, I was in a hotel in Bulgaria where their restaurant had a children's section for food and beverage selections. In it, the counters were lower, including the beer tap, so the kids could reach it :-)

We are doing a river cruise with extended family. I don't have a problem buying them a beer, but I was a bit concerned about them being served on the ship without an adult present. I think the Tauck policy as stated above is reasonable.

BKMD, your comment made me laugh. Thanks!
