Early hotel arrival
New to Tauck. I just filled out out flight schedule with tauck, but am wondering how do I request two nights at the arrival hotel before the tour starts? Is this a reservation I make on my own?

If you use a travel agent just ask them to contact Tauck and make the reservation. If you booked directly with Tauck just call them to add the extra nights. If you don’t book through Tauck then you may not get the transfers to the hotel .
You will still get the Tauck transfers even if you don't book the extra nights with them. You may find the rate cheaper if you don't book with Tauck and just book the extra nights separately from them. FInd this is often the case.
I understand that you only get the Tauck transfer if you stay in the Tauck hotel? But maybe they are more flexible these days.
John , are you saying you have flights that mean you arrive two days early but have not booked an hotel for those nights? Tauck will book their hotel for you but only if there is availability. I would hurry and so this especially if it is a small Italian hotel in the height of the season.
We just did the Spain and Portugal parador tour in October and for the first night, Tauck DID pick us up at the airport and we stayed at a hotel that had absolutely nothing to do with Tauck and I booked it on our own. Wanted to stay someplace different rather than at the hotel Tauck was using for the beginning of our tour. Was about $150 a night less, also. Moved over to the Tauck hotel the next day.
Tauck has gotten much more flexible about transfers than I think they were in the past. At the end of our Rhine/Danube cruise last summer we stayed 3 nights at a non-Tauck hotel in Amsterdam. The cruise director arranged a taxi to pick us up at the ship to go to the hotel which we paid for. But then arranged for their car service company to pick us up from that hotel and drive is to the airport at Taucks expense. As long as it's to a major transport hub (airport, train station) or hotel they can usually handle it. If it's a private residence like an Airbnb then not.
As for booking yourself at the Tauck hotel, you may well get a better rate but might not get perks like free breakfast. Breakfast at their hotels tends to be very expensive but also often way more than I require to eat.
