Round #86 won by Portolan
Submitted by AlanS. Peruvian Paso horses during a performance at Hacienda Mamacona in Lurin, Peru. Known for their extremely smooth ride which is a result of a unique four step gait. They inherited this gait from European predecessors, strict breeding and training, though some claim it resulted from walking on the hot sands of coastal Peru. During the performance the horses wore ribbons to signify their prior show successes.

  • Where are these people and what are they doing?

  • Spitzbergen. Walking up the hill to tray or tube down.

  • Similar idea but not the correct place.

  • Mt. Titlis Switzerland?

  • JohnS is correct. This is on Mt Titlis in Switzerland. The people are going down on a glacier. Take BKMD's idea and reverse it. You start at the top and slide down on a plastic sled that they give you. At the bottom you don't walk up but rather go up on a motorized walkway. We didn't go down because there was a long line and we've been sledding many times in our lives. This was a very popular attraction with the visitors form india, many of whom had never seen snow. Kids, adults, everybody were doing this over and over. We found that Mt Titlis is a popular site for visitors from India. Apparently, Bollywood filmed some movies on the mountain with some top actors and actresses. They have a cut out of them at the top. The visitors were taking pictures with them. There's also a very large Indian restaurant which is bigger than than the Swiss restaurant.

Rather than sledding, we went on a six person chairlift that took you over the glaciers and walked around various walkways.

To get to the top of Mt Titlis you first take a six person enclosed ski lift then go into a giant round one which fits probably 75-100 people and rotates so you can see all directions.

For British who likes to take pictures of food. Here's a vending machine that can only be Swiss!

  • I worked with many Indians in the tech industry and wondered why they always talked about going to Switzerland. This is almost an iconic place for Indians to travel.

  • That rotating gondola was similar to the one that takes people to the top of Table Mountain in Cape Town. There was a group that would ride the same one as our tour that kept pushing their way to the front of the line so they could claim the windows on the side of the gondola facing town and the waterfront. When the door opened they rudely pushed their way in and achieved their goal, only quickly find out to their disappointment that the gondola rotated! :D

  • Alan,

This was on the Ultimate Alps and Dolomites tour.

  • When we did UA&D they didn't go to Mt. Titlis
