Addis ababa

Curious if anyone has connected thru Addis Ababa airport? We just got our tickets with star alliance miles flying on Ethiopian airlines. They only scheduled us an hour and 15 minute connection in Addis Ababa. Is this enough? Thank you

We connected through ADD on Ethiopian AL, going over and returning from K&T back in 2015, so it was awhile ago. The layovers were 3+05 and 2+50 coming home (there was also a 1 hr layover in Dublin for gas only, we didn't de-plane.)

Normally I would say 1+15 is too short, but you can make that connection because ADD is small, just one terminal for all international flights, so it is extremely easy to get from arrival gate to departure gate- they are all right there. ADD is Ethiopian's home base and they have ground people to help you make your connection.

When we connected going over we spent some time in the lounge then when we decided to get in line, the "line monitor" had turned the Cloud Nine sign (Ethiopian's business class) around. When we asked where the Cloud Nine line was, he just waived us to the back of a long line. There was another, slightly shorter line. but as we were trying to decide which one to stand in, a very helpful ET ground agent asked if we needed help. We explained our quandary, she said follow me and whisked us to the head of the line right up to the scanner. When we went downstairs to the boarding lounge we attempted to get on one of the buses to our aircraft. Another agent stopped us and said, "no, no, you are Cloud 9" She called on her radio for another bus which arrived in 2 min. We were the only passengers on it! It dropped us off right by the red carpet to the Business cabin of a new 787.

The problem, however, is if your arriving flight is late. Of course if it is really late no amount of layover is adequate.

  • Just make sure you pack a couple of changes of clothing in your carry on in case you make the flight but your checked luggage doesn’t. There is probably no other choice of flight.

  • Thank you for the responses
