South Africa: An Elegant Adventure
Hello group…we are traveling in June on the SA Elegant Adventure.
A few questions-
How did you find the weather? Tips on packing for the weather?
Has anyone traveled with a shellfish food allergy? Was their awareness?
Any other tips specifically for this tour?
Thank you very much

We did this trip in November of 2021. I did a review of the trip which I have put a direct link below. I believe a few things have changed but some of the information may be of use to you. The thread has other commentary in addition to the review.

In addition, you will probably find some useful information in the “South Africa: An Elegant Adventure Forum”. A direct link to the forum is below.

We took this wonderful tour during August. Like June, it was cool in the early mornings on safari and in Cape Town. We both brought and were satisfied with a fleece jacket and a light rain/windproof jacket and gloves. Layering is key and provides options. It warms up considerably during the day. We usually wore pants but did bring shorts and wore them a couple of times.
Let Tauck know about the shellfish allergy before you go and alert the Tour director when you first meet.

Tauck is superb re special diets. I too am allergic to shellfish and do exactly what British says. We have been on 9 Tauck trips without any problem. When the group is served shellfish, there always is a substitute for me.
Enjoy the trip and don't worry about it.
You will be there in the Southern Africa winter and it can be really cold in the early morning when the game drives begin. We had fleeces, hats and gloves and the vehicles had blankets. It can be rainy particularly in Cape Town at that time of year. It’s still a great time to go.
Vancy S2319 - You need to remain vigilent regarding the shellfish allergy. I have a shellfish allergy. Make sure you let them know on the first day and put it on the sheet they give you. Some TDs were vigilent and let me know of substitutions on meals. Some ship waiters would remember; others did not. Other TDs did nothing. On one trip, they took us for lunch on a mussell farm. I was not aware the lunch would be on the boat in the in the ocean and that it would be in small, closed closed environment. Even the smell of it started to cause me a reaction and I left the inside of the boat and went outside which relieved the symptoms somewhat. I was glad to return to land!
Thank you
You all are great and thank you for all these tips
