Three full free days?

Going in June 2025 on 1st Tauck trip. Just logged-in and noticed note stating: "On Day 5, the photography workshop is no longer available. We will enjoy free time at Chateau Lake Louise instead." Does that mean that Day 5 is now an entire "free day" at Lake Louise, which was originally listed as a free afternoon in the Itinerary i.e., we would then have three full free days (notwithstanding any other changes required next year because of Jasper fires)?

  • That’s what it says. Maybe they will add something nearer the time as it is a long way off.

  • In my experience with Tauck since Covid, they have been "cheapening" trips by having more free time (and meals on own) and fewer scheduled activities.

  • What date in June are you going? We are on the June7th trip.

  • Hi Jo, if you look at RRS’s profile, Tjey have not been back to the forum since December 2024.

  • Sometimes I think abut what issues would make me want to change trips. One couple from Malibu comes to mind. The Canadian Rockies and Glacier National Park trip is a great trip so long as you like scenic bus rides. We had our favorite TD on that trip Rob W. I have no idea what condition the JPL is now in. I could spend a lot f time at the Fairmont Banff Springs which was once owned by CP Air and it was a dump. It is a spectacular place now.

  • My favorite hotel brand is Fairmont, especially in Canada. Most of their properties are destinations in their own right. I am saddened to learn of the fires in Manitoba.

  • I have read that the JPL is open. They lost a few buildings. The main lodge and most cabins are OK. I have no idea how Tauck is dealing with this.

OK. The lack of enlightening posts made me go back and review this trip. We did it ten years ago. It is exactly the same now as it was ten years ago, meals, free time, tours, options. I’m sure the JPL is a bit ‘smoked’, but the tour looks exactly like the one we took. There is a bit of ‘free’ time, but it is in very nice places. When I was at the Banff Springs hotel many years ago I took half a day off from skiing just because I wanted to see the hotel. Otherwise, it was always dark when I left in the morning, and dark when I got back in the evening. The hotel is ‘much’ nicer now that it is a Fairmont property.

Just a ‘by the way’ since no ne has commented. We visit a place called the Evergreen Lodge at Yosemite. The Rim fire burned much of Yosemite and came right up to the pool at the Evergreen Lodge. The fact that many of the firefighters were staying at the Evergreen Lodge may have had something to do with the fact that it did not burn down. Those fire fighters return every year for a reunion and I don’t think they pay for their lodging. My well disguised point is this … a burned out forest returns fairly rapidly, and it is still a beautiful environment.
