Concierge Tipping
I am always a bit confused about appropriate tipping for the concierge. What is the typical tip for typical assistance? Things such as asking for directions, calling a cab, advice on where to eat etc? I assume if they assist in getting dinner reservations or tickets that indeed would be a tip. Advice would be greatly appreciated.

We usually tip the concierge if they have given advice or made reservations, etc. The amount is dependent on how much they have done. Typically anywhere between $5 and $25. But, on our last Tauck tour in July, one of the tour directors told us Tauck tips the concierge also. We will continue to tip as we’ve done in the past.
Last year, we had a TD tell us that Tauck tips the concierge.
Typically in the 'welcome packet' the tour director(s) specify that the concierge has been taken care of, as well as other hotel staff. I do not tip if she/he hands me a map, but I certainly do if the discussion is lengthy and/or if dinner reservations have been made for me—the amount being solely discretionary.
I was also told by several tour directors that the room attendant in hotels are not tipped by Tauck.
Yes, I take care of the hotel room attendants, as well as those on the riverboats. On riverboats we typically sit at the same table each meal and get to know the server(s). I discreetly hand them a 'thank you' note with some euros inside at the end of the voyage. In the lounge we typically sit near the pianist and will tip her/him as well as the bartender(s). They all work so hard and are away from their families for such long periods of time.
I, too, was told by a TD that the hotel concierges are tipped by Tauck. I assume that if Tauck booked my extra nights in a hotel, the concierge tip is included, but if I book nights on my own, no tips are included.
I think there may be some nuance here. I think there are times when concierges get something back on your dinner reservation. On many occasions the concierge gave me a slip with restaurant reservation information, with the concierge retaining the carbon copy below. I think that is used for later reconciliation. I might be wrong, but I have thought that was at least one purpose.
Yes, Tauck tips the bell people, concierge, etc.
I'd tip the concierge if (s)he helped me with a booking pre/post tour. Otherwise, during the tour, directions, summoning a taxi, etc., Tauck tips them.
