what to buy or not

Anything in particular worth buying in Australia and New Zealand?

  • I think you should buy a didgeridoo, a native Australian musical instrument. 😀

  • If you like jewelry, Australia is known for opals and New Zealand for greenstone, a type of jade. The Te Papa Museum in Wellington, NZ has a lovely gift shop.

  • Although I was very tempted to purchase opal jewelry, I opted for fabric with aboriginal designs.

  • Our son had a trip to Australia and New Zealand, it was his high school senior trip. I remember it was a really reasonable price, so a large number of kids went. some had never even been on an airplane. After about a week, parents started receiving didgeridoos in the mail. Our son’s arrived the same day he returned home. For an 18 year old, he chose some lovely souvenirs to bring home, including of course a boomerang.
Be careful if you buy opals, they are prone to chipping. A friend had that happen to the ring she bought there. I love costume jewelry but I inherited a huge white opal ring surrounded by diamonds from my mother in law. She had inherited it but never wore it because she thought it was too huge and pretentious. I had it sized and wear it very occasionally, it’s great for self defense!
