Great Migration

We are trying to figure out which month to join this tour. When doing the daily safari trips from the last Serengeti hotel ( Serengeti Serena) do the drivers target the Grumeti river crossings or can they go all the way to the Mara River? Did anyone see any river crossings and in which month? Thank you.

  • We went on this trip in July-august 2019. Our tour watched the crossing at the Mara River. IT is amazing. The weather was perfect, cool mornings and evenings and clear and sunny during the daytime. No flies either. Enjoy it

  • We took this trip in September - and timing was perfect for weather. Although not during Great Migration - absolutely each day had lots of animals at all watering holes. Avoiding rainy season means we had no tse tse flies or mosquitoes, and jeep drivers could avoid major ruts in roads - which means no 3 hour flat tire delays, which often occur.

  • We also saw crossing of the Mara river in September (2015). Weather was great.

    Some don't make it across.

    But most do.

Hippos seem to enjoy the spectacle as well, albeit it a defensive arrangement (note all the crocodiles in the area).

I must have been on 100 safari outings and only once experienced a flat tire. We were out on a gravel road n the desert with no- one in site. Our tour director had us exit the vehicle and stay in the shade of the vehicle while he set to, to exchange the tire. It first Involved removing all our luggage to get to the tire, or tools, I can’t recall that part. Suddenly, far on the distance like a mirage, we saw a shape coming towards us. It was a man! Where he was emerging from, I don’t know, but he headed towards us and helped with the tire change! Our four guide tipped him handsomely. All this took no time at all and we were soon on our way.
That’s my husband helping unscrew nuts from the spare tire, so I guess the bags were removed to get to the tools.

  • We just went on this tour in early July. Weather great, saw the migration and river crossings in all its glory
