Christmas

Since we (all at the down under time slot) are already saying good night to Boxing Day), it's past time to wish everyone who celebrates Christmas in other parts of the globe … a happy & blessed one … and to those readers who don't, I'd like to wish you a happy, safe and loving weekend. I'm channelling the Beatles …. All You Need is Love ……. da da da da daaa…………...

And happy travels in 2015.

Cheers,

Jan

    Jan,

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, etc. to you and everyone else!

These days, it is usually Grandma and I who bestow gifts on our kids and grandkids. It is so hard for them to come up with presents for us since we no longer delay gratification and get whatever we want or need when the spirit moves us. Besides, our wants and needs are not so much these days.

That being said, I got two books: Rich Estes' "The Safari Companion; a Guide to Watching African Mammals," and the rather hefty "The Fortunes of Africa; A 5000-year History of Wealth, Greed, and Endeavor" by Martin Meredith. At 700 pages, it will difficult for me to wade through it prior to our K&T trip in June since I am a rather slow and easily-distracted reader. On the practical side, I received a buff and insect repellent wipes which will really come in handy since mosquitoes consider me a delicacy!

  • Sorry AlanS, I couldn't pass this one up.

The insects I saw in Africa considered the piles on the ground behind the south end of a north bound elephant to be their biggest delicacy. I am not sure where you fit in that "food" chain.

Enjoy your trip. To be honest, I hardly ever used insect spray and when I did it was supplied in the hotel rooms. I never used my buffs. Just FYI.

You'll love this experience. It was great. I am actually considering going back, but on a bit more rusty camping version. Time will tell.
  • Happy New Year to all my fellow Tauck travelers. My you have good travels in 2015.
  • We were bitten by tsetse flies and we used our buffs in July, they were especially useful during the very dusty and windy visit to the Massai village in Tanzania. Don't forget you tend not to 'see' the Malaria carrying mosquitoes until it is too late. Hope everyone has had a joyful holiday break, whatever that means for each individual. May 2015 be a year for more people to enjoy the experience of world travel that brings us all closer together by embracing our differences.
  • Happy Holidays, everybody, and a happy new year to you all! :)

  • Happy travels to all! May your 2015 adventures lead you to new insights, renewed acquaintances, and simple joy!
