travel group sizes

Hi

We are new to Tauk tours and have a question concerning the tour group sizes ie small group vs normal size

With the larger group, is the size so large that you felt you had to jockey for position?

Is dining comfortable with such a large group?

Any comments/insights would be appreciated.

Thank you

I don't quite understand the question. What is large, small, or normal? We have not toured with any group we considered too large, and dining has always been pleasant.
  • I have been on both a small group tour and a "regular sized" tour with Tauck. Both were excellent. I have stayed in touch with some people that I met on the smaller tour, and have not stayed in touch with anyone that I met on the larger tour, but that's probably just a function of the individuals -- though everyone was cordial in both groups. I did not find that the larger group posed a problem. The other travelers on both tours were very respectful of showing up when and where we were supposed to. I know that in the past, others have said that it is worth it to spend the extra money to get on a smaller tour, but I would pick a tour that fits your schedule, and not worry about the size. Just enjoy!

Click on the word "Search" which is on the right end of the line containing "Logged in as: (screen name)" above. Type "small group" (no quotation marks) in the "Posts" box, then click on "search." You will get 20 pages of opinions, recommendations, experiences, and discussions of small vs standard size Tauck tours, including a few by me. There are definite differences but it basically comes down to a personal decision.

A much easier way is to click on the 'Quick info' instead of the 'Full itinerary ' section of the tour you are interested in and it will give you the number of people on the tour. Each tour has different numbers. So some regular sized tours will actually have numbers comparable with other small size tours. Tour size is sometimes determined by size of coaches available or narrow roads, or availability of suitable hotels. I have also been on several tours that have not been full anyway.
  • British, I use this website all the time and I have never seen a "Quick Info" section, although I see the "Full Itinerary". Can you please explain where you are looking. Thanks
  • Hi Golly Gee,
Quick info is right above full itinerary to the right of the individual tour descriptions.
  • When I posted my first reply to henrynancy, I should have addressed the dining question, which I will do now. Other than the first night and the final night, we did not eat as a whole group. Instead, on the days when dinner was included, the tour director asked what times and with whom people would like to have dinner, and made arrangements with the restaurant. So, sometimes there would be 4, 6 or 8 at a table, and it was just like going out to dinner with friends.
