Clothing in Arusha

My husband and I will be arriving in Arusha 9/30 for our 10/2 Tanzania Kenya safari. We will be arriving in Arusha 2 days early. We are contemplating doing the 1 day Kilimanjaro hiking trip. It is a long day but have read it is worth doing. Has anyone done this before. Also are women alllowed to wear shorts if walking around in the town.

    I would not recommend walking around the town, a drive by would be sufficient to get the flavor. The hotel is not in the town. In Tanzania, people dress very conservatively, Bermuda length shorts would be fine, but I would not consider anything shorter.

    Do not go unescorted in Arusha. I would not wear shorts. The cultural center and the arts and crafts center staffed by disabled people were my two favorite experiences in Arusha. We also snuck into a rip roaring Pentecostal church service located in a building next to our hotel. The “praise” was so loud and robust that the tour company I traveled with then has since changed their start hotel.
