Feedback about the 8 day tour of Provence

I'm thinking of booking the Provence 8 day tour and was wondering if anyone has done this specific tour before. I'd love to hear people's impressions—what did they really enjoy and what didn't they like so much? Any recommendations or tips?
Thanks, In advance,
Marilyn

  • I've been to Provence but not on this tour. If your goal is to see the breathtaking lavender fields, you have to do that in summer—with mid-July being the peak season—but summer is also hot and crowded with tourists.

  • Thanks!

  • Marilyn - my husband and I took this tour 10 plus years ago. While the hotels have changed, many of the activities appear to be the same. We enjoyed the beauty of the area, especially hiking, delving into Cezanne and van Gogh, great food and wine.

  • Thanks for letting me know. Glad you enjoyed it! Marilyn

  • We did this trip about 5 years ago and it was one of the best trips we've done with Tauck! My only recommendation: soak it all in!!

  • We did this tour 2 years ago and it is very lovely. my only recommendation would be concerning the extra "free" night if you book far ahead. The tour ends in Avignon and the hotel we stayed at was way out of town and it was Sunday. No public transportation runs on Sunday. We did our extra night at the end which meant we had a nice hotel, but not close to anything. Public transportation was pricey to get into town so we were isolated. Should have done the extra night at the beginning.

  • Thanks for the information. Sorry you were so far from town!

  • We did this tour in May 2022. We had a small group of 10. We enjoyed every second. Tour director (not sure he is still with Tauck) was one of the best we've ever had with any company. Only complaint is the hotel in Aix. While it is close to the city center, it's more like a Hilton hotel for larger groups. Very small rooms, little ambiance. Everyone in our group agreed. Wish they would select a boutique hotel. the second hotel in Gordes is definitely 5-star. The last hotel in Avignon is nice but 10-15 minute drive from town. all the tours are wonderful, food and wine abundant and very good. Weather was perfect in early May, you don't see the lavender
but i wouldn't want to be there in 100 degrees.

  • Considering how little time one spends in a hotel and Aix in France not being a big city, it would not detract from my enjoyment of wonderful Fancel. If you are in a hotel in the middle of the day,,you could be out exploring.

  • We went to Provence in 2014, so quite some time ago. We were on our own - not on a tour - and stayed at the Renaissance Hotel which was a short walk from the train station. While I agree that a hotel is mostly just to sleep in, I appreciate a nice hotel.

The Renaissance was not a five star hotel, but the rooms were large and comfortable.

  • Thanks for the information..glad you all had a good time. Marilyn

  • Mowie, how was your trip? Recommend?

  • I did not go on this trip yet. I am thinking of going on this trip next fall. Marilyn (Mowie)
