clothing and Vancouver activities
We are taking this trip in June. What is the dress like on this trip especially for dinners in the evening? Do the men need a jacket? What about on the train? Also any suggestions for activities in Vancouver outside of what Tauck covers would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Do you need a dress or slacks? On other Tauck trips people get dressed up at dinner Jacket ?
We just were on the Rocky Mountaineer and Canadian Rockies tour. Most people wore pretty casual clothing for dinner. A few wore nicer slacks or a dress for dinner. Not many men wore sports coats.
Sorry I don't know what Tauck covers but the Anthropology museum on the campus of University of BC is fantastic. You will need a taxi or Uber.
If not included and if you have sufficient time, Butchart Gardens makes for a lovely excursion.
Stanley Park is another suggestion.
Butchart Gardens are in Victoria on Vancouver Island. Probably not something to do if you are staying in Vancouver.
Stanley Park is good. Also a walk along the waterfront is worthwhile.
On one of our Tauck tours we flew from Butchart Gardens in a float plane to Vancouver. I was also confused by the recommendation. The gardens however are excellent.
That’s why I specified ‘if you have sufficient time.’ You can take the ferry or fly.
For views of the water, mountains and skyline, there is also a paved path that surrounds Stanley Park. It is called The Seawall.
When I went to Vancouver years ago, I visited Stanley Park and went to the Vancouver aquarium which is in the park. Also, we took a city bus to the Capilano Suspension Bridge and Grouse Mountain. Love Vancouver! Enjoy!
Been to Vancouver several times . Visit Stanley Park . Beautiful hiking trails - easy walks with Ocean views and gardens . Granville Island loaded with artist . What Kathy0529 says is correct - Grouse Mt. has many activities - sensational views of harbor . It is in North Vancouver - can take the Ferry , they go back + forth constantly or by Bridge .
Going to this area for the first time in Aug. 2026. Any helpful inform would be appreciated. Attire? Packing suggestions? Airport info for Calgary? Last trip out West I overpacked and it made it miserable with all the traveling, changing hotels, etc....
A versatile, mix and match wardrobe works best for us. Merino wool and cashmere are light, soft and offer superior warmth when needed. I would also take a rain jacket. Comfortable walking shoes with sturdy soles as well.
If planning on having fine dining experiences at the Fairmont properties, especially in Banff and Lake Louise, you might wish to dress accordingly. Jasper Park Lodge was our favorite property. No need for dressier attire there in my opinion. I don’t know how the property has changed after the fire, however.
I can’t offer input on Calgary since it was not on our itinerary when we did the Grand Canadian Rockies tour.
CM2019:
The Grand Canadian Rockies was one of our favorite tours with Tauck! It was very casual due to all the modes of transportation and activities

arranged for our group...seaplane from Vancouver to Vancouver Island, ferry back to Vancouver, overnight train from Vancouver to Jasper, biking and kayaking in Jasper, motorcoach to Lake Louise with an intermediate stop to board an ice mover for glacier trekking, canoeing across Lake Louise and hiking, motorcoach to Banff with white water rafting, and a final motorcoach trip to Calgary on our last day.
Our Welcome & Farewell dinners called for business casual attire, otherwise we dressed for the activity of the day.
We went in July 2023 and the weather was spectacular!
Enjoy!
