I looked at just one tour as an example. It was a Danube River cruise with a pre-stay in a hotel in Prague. It looks as if mostly it’s just free time, I don’t get it! I think the cheapest price advertised was $8000+. It did not list the higher prices. I think it was for 7 nights. We are taking a Danube cruise early next year which apart from not going to Prague is almost exactly the same plus we go to Salzburg. All tours included and we are paying $2500 for great cabins which are all the same quality on the ship. I would think the Tauck cruise would be more suited to seniors who don’t want to be so busy. There are some bike trips. but there are alternatives….just a more relaxed river cruise.
I did not find anything of interest in any of the Roam tours. Lots of adjectives! I could curate those myself if I wanted a restful vacation in luxury digs. I don't need Tauck to do that. I travel with Tauck for the experiences, access to special places, and transport to difficult or unsafe places. I have also been to many of the places on the tours.
Anyway I am not of the defined demographic but still interested in learning, experiences and activites. Not enough of that in these tours. BTW I am up and about at 4:45 AM ... I would be bored! Younger people that I know (middle-agers) can easily plan these offerings on their own and would want busier itineraries.
And unfortunately, the regular Tauck tours seem to be moving in the same direction with more free time, fewer included meals and fewer major sites included.
Since I have not been to the region, the Bordeaux and Dordogne tour appealed to me. Climbing sand dunes and vigorous bicycling are not for me, but this could be a great tour for those, like me, who have European relatives and wish to have a family reunion in an elegant setting. Both young and old could do what they wished.
I have read numerous articles about how some young professionals are delaying or even forfeiting having children to focus on what matters most to them. Roam tours just might appeal to them. Regardless, the beauty about travel now is that there is something for everyone and for every budget. It’s not for me to judge how others choose to travel.
i was looking forward to Roam. After looking at a few itineraries, I find it really disappointing. A DIY trip makes much more sense. We wanted to revisit the Dordogne area and take Tauck's Bordeaux, Dordogne trip. When learning that there would be no time to visit a garden we decided to do the trip ourselves this past September. It was easy to do. We hired a driver for three days in Sarlat and did what we wanted for as long as we wanted. (funny thing: now that the NYT listed the garden we wanted to see as one of the best, Tauck is including it for next year)
i wish Tauck offered a Roam type trip but rather than lots of free time they would offer more time at a particular site. On our last Tauck trip last May we were rushed through a cathedral and then again didn't have enough time in a museum. i often want more depth in the excursions. I still cringe when I think of a Nice/.Monaco Tauck excursion a few years ago where we were given 30 min in Nice (we decided to leave the tour and spent a lovely day in Nice).
This 80 something old lady says no to so much leisure time at a fairly expensive price - it's either more diy trips or traditional Tauck trips - but then Roam wasn't designed for my age group. This may be just what younger people want .

I don't think these will succeed.
I agree with bucketlist.

Agree with bucketlist; I don't see the value in Roam itineraries.
